One may always hope that things will turn around, but my biggest fear is that Microsoft has gotten too institutional for the sake of the stock.
If that's the case, nothing short of a total housecleaning up top (including Ballmer) will change it.
However, even then, Microsoft as a publicly-traded corporation exists for one sole purpose: the benefit of its shareholders. If the turnaround cannot be shown to be beneficial to shareholders in the long term, it may never come to pass.
