FIX: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War Won't Install On Vista

(Note: These instructions are for "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Platinum Edition" and "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Game of the Year Edition." Modify as appropriate for the version you are trying to install.)

Open a Command Prompt window by typing Windows-R, then typing "cmd" and pressing ENTER.

Type in the following command all on one line (where CD drive is the drive letter of your DVD drive):

msiexec /qb /i [cddrive]:\dowsetup\dawnofwar.msi TARGETDIR="C:\Games\THQ\DoW"

Okay the UAC prompt. Let it install.

Open the Registry Editor by typing Windows-R, then typing "regedit" and pressing ENTER.

Okay the UAC prompt.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn of War.

Right-click on the "CDKEY" key and pick "Modify." Enter your CD key (including dashes). Hit "OK."

Right-click on the "CDKEY_WXP" key and pick "Modify." Enter your Winter Assault CD key (including dashes). Hit "OK."

Right-click on "InstallLocation" and pick "Modify." Enter the target directory from the above step. Hit "OK."

Close the Registry Editor and Command Window.

Open Explorer, browse to your DVD drive into the DCSetup folder.

Run setup.exe to install the Dark Crusade.

Would you know how to get the game to work if you downloaded it via STEAM?

Some people have been vouching for this solution...

This is GREAT information, why is it not on the Relic Forum?

This is outstanding. It works brilliantly, can accept updates and everything. Thing is, the only way I've got it to work as above is if I use the default location, ie c:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn Of War. If I try to use a different path, it installs about two folders there and then the rest in the default location anyway! Apart from that, great stuff and a million thanks for enabling me to play this great game on my new OS. thank you. ||m||

I am doing everything as said, inputting the command line as told, but it won't install. It opens this window that says "Windows installer" but installs nothing.

please someone answer his question, i'm having the same problem with the windows installer poping up and nothing happening. Its incredibly upsetting and frustrating that Dawn of War works on my old computer but won't work on this more superior one.

zman,

I haven't been able to get the "Windows Installer" window error that people above have spoken about.

Sorry.
